G. I. tubes and pipes manufactured by Tube Mills often lack corrosion resistance properties at the weld portion and over the entire seam length (due to the removal of the galvanized coating while welding the seam), resulting in poor corrosion resistance and subsequent rusting. We examined the issue and created a chemically safe online zinc spray booth for continuous online zinc spray coating on G. I. tubes and pipes at the seam. Such systems have been shown and provided to a number of renowned tube mills, where they have performed admirably. The zinc spray has a particle size of 20 to 30 microns. However, deposits of 10 to 100 microns can be made (depending on tube/pipe traverse speed) on tubes and pipes ranging in size from 15mm N.B. to 125mm N.B. without interfering with tube mill speed. With a coating thickness of around 25 microns, the average production can be 10 pipes per minute. The system package includes a dry zinc spray booth (Spray Chamber), a twin cyclone, an exhaust fan with a motor, and ducting.
The Online Zinc Spray Booth is installed immediately following the welding Work Station. The Arc Spray Gun is placed within the Spray Booth. To minimize spray wire losses, the spray gun's distance from the tube/pipe is adjusted based on the size of the tube/pipe and the spray pattern desired. The Hot Weld seam is sprayed with zinc wire, which results in a dense covering with a strong metallurgical bond across the weld seam. Due to the suction caused by the exhaust fan, fumes and fine zinc dust formed in the spray booth are pulled into the cyclone dust collector. Because of cyclonic action, zinc particles are held at the bottom of the cyclone dust collector, and clean air is expelled into the atmosphere from the blower's outlet. The Arc Spray Gun System is made up of an Arc Spray Gun and two wire feeding arrangements (DC/AC). The power source is integrated into the control panel, and each wire spool stand has a spool capacity of 15 kg. The wire feeding mechanism is powered by an electric motor. The motor controls the wire feeding speed. Zinc spraying is a cold procedure that results in a fine and dense quality coating with strong bonding strength and minimal porosity.
